Our Mission | Woodland Coffee Co
Better Coffee. Wilder Britain.
Woodland Coffee exists for two reasons: to put exceptional coffee in your cup, and to put native trees back in British soil.
The coffee
Our beans are roasted by one of Yorkshire's most respected independent speciality roasters, operating since 2008. Every coffee we offer is 100% Arabica, ethically sourced from growers across Brazil, Guatemala, Ethiopia, El Salvador, India, and Indonesia — farmers who are paid well above Fairtrade minimum prices through transparent, traceable supply chains.
Quality comes first. Our beans are selected through blind cupping — tasting without knowing the origin, the price, or the producer. Only flavour decides what makes the cut. No marketing, no bias — just what tastes exceptional in the cup.
Each blend is then profile roasted in small batches in West Yorkshire, where time, temperature, and roast curve are carefully controlled to bring out the natural sweetness, depth, and character of the bean. The coffee is rested after roasting to release excess CO2, so when it arrives at your door it's ready to brew at its best — smooth, clean, and full of flavour.
We offer three distinct blends, each crafted for a different palate: Oak House Blend for rich caramel lovers, Beech Wood for smooth milk chocolate drinkers, and Black Thorn for those who want bold, dark intensity. Every grind option — from espresso to filter to cafetière — is available because how you brew matters as much as what you brew.
The mission
The UK has lost nearly half its biodiversity since the Industrial Revolution. We rank 189th out of 218 countries for the state of our nature. Only 6% of national park land is effectively managed for wildlife, and 91% of England's native woodlands are in poor ecological health.
Every Woodland Coffee purchase supports Moor Trees, a registered charity near Dartmoor National Park (No. 1081142), working to expand biodiverse native woodlands across the UK. Each winter, Moor Trees plants thousands of native broadleaf trees grown from locally collected seeds — oak, birch, rowan, hazel — directly addressing climate breakdown and biodiversity loss.
This is not carbon offsetting. This is restoration. Real trees, in real British soil, growing real ecosystems.
Why subscription matters
One bag helps. A subscription builds something. Predictable monthly support allows Moor Trees to plan long-term planting programmes rather than relying on one-off donations. When you subscribe, you're not just buying better coffee — you're funding a living, growing system of woodland recovery.
